What Is the Most Nostalgic Thing for You?

Discussion in 'Off Topic' started by le Brownie, Oct 19, 2021.

  1. Hello!!

This thread is to get your opinions, and to share mine, on some of the things that bring us nostalgia, or feel Nostalgic. I am going to share with you (most likely in the form of images with descriptions) of some of the things I find very nostalgic, based on my life.

First of all, If you dont know what Nostalgia is, Here's the definition.

    nos·tal·gia

    nos·tal·gia
    /näˈstaljə,nəˈstaljə/

    noun
    1. a sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past, typically for a period or place with happy personal associations.
"I was overcome with acute nostalgia for my days in college"
Things that are Nostalgic can really be anything, it's just how you feel about them. Whether it's a picture of times of old, or a picture that sparks a faint memory of your childhood, It doesn't exactly matter what is it, I am interested in your opinions!

Here are the things that I find nostalgic:

    • Hotel Room at night.
No images that I found on the internet can get anywhere near as close to how I truly remember this experience. I was very young, I'd say maybe 4 or 5 years old. Its a very hard to remember this memory, very faint, and almost lost. The memory only lasted a few seconds, usually during the time of my life when I was young I didnt really have a sense of self consciousness, until I turn like 7 or 8. I only remember Blips or short scenes of my life when I was around those early, very young ages. Anyways- The memory I remember here only lasted about 4 seconds I would say, I remember being with my brother, grandma, and parents in a hotel room. It was night time, and out the window was a view of an Outdoor pool, surrounded with the other half of the hotel building, and with the ambience of people splashing and laughing, From the pool. It was a nice experience, from what I can remember.

    • A foggy, Autumn morning.
Again, no images can really compare to how I experienced it. This isnt really a specific memory, of one certain time, It happened multiple times, when I was young, Most likely a little bit older than I was in the scene I described above. (The hotel - pool one.) I remember getting up early in cold, chilly mornings, and going with my parents to drive around town and look at the scenery, or maybe go somewhere in particular. But what's nostalgic about it, is that I miss seeing what I saw on those trips, Our old minivan, the somewhat cold temperature, seeing the mountains with its trees of all different sorts of autumn colors, and fading down into a Layer of fog. It is a really nice memory.

    • Beach at night.
This is by-far my favorite nostalgic memory of my childhood. I remember camping at a beach, (not going to mention the name) on the east coast, with my family. I remember waking up in the middle of the night, and walking outside. As soon as I walk outside I see how beautiful the sky is, so I walk to the beach ramp and walk down the ocean. It was the most beautiful scene I had ever saw in my life. I cannot describe it, some things cannot be described with your vocabulary and can only be comprehended when you experience them for yourself. I will describe it for you in the best I can. There was the the Beach, with the ocean, and yes, at night, like I said. the sand was particularly beautiful because the Moon, which was up in the sky, covered lightly with these beautiful soft aesthetic blue-ish yellow-ish clouds, was shining onto the beach and lighting up the sand with a beautiful blue-ish color.. kind of like how the Bed looks lin the Hotel picture. Then, the ocean was reflecting the light coming from the moon and the clouds, and everything else up in the sky as well. And As beautiful as the Ocean's appearance was regarding the sky, the sound was also very beautiful as well. There was the sound of the waves moving and crashing, and then the ambience of crickets and other bugs singing. Up in the sky was not only the moon with it's clouds, but also there was all sorts of stars, and the view of distant planets. The sky was also clear enough to see the milky way, which was quite visible, and did nothing but add to the Awe of it all. Then, to the left, there was the view of the distant big city next to the beach island I was on, the lights from all the city lights were adding a small, soft yellowish glow to the small part of the sky around it. It all came together in the way I described everything into one beautiful experience.

  2. hi

the most nostalgic thing for me has to be listening to songs from my past. every week or so i add about 5-7 new songs to my spotify liked songs all in quick succession from each other. and then i listen to those songs on repeat for the next week, and the weeks following while they're still near the top of the list. i then go back to those songs months and months later and reminisce on what i was doing with my life around that time because it brings back loads of memories for me - even if that time period wasn't so memorable at the time

at first i thought this was in terms of mineplex, in which case -- playing block hunt. my og favourite game from way back when. i don't play it very much anymore but when i do it reminds me of those good old days

  4. First of all this is a wholesome and interesting thread,
For me being cozy in the winter sitting infront of a fire with tea and cinnamon is the most nostalgic for me. It always reminds me of my parents taking care of me after playing in the snow and probably getting sick afterwards :').

  5. I completely agree! There's just something about old music that just takes me back. It reminds me of simpler times and I'm not going to lie, I tend to completely space out when some songs come on. Not sure if you guys do the same, but there are times when I just listen to one particular song and put it on repeat for weeks until I move on to another song. Generally, I go through phases where I'll obsess over one particular thing for weeks and then stop all of the sudden. To give an example, when I was probably in middle school, I would go into phases wherein every spare moment of free time, I would read. There's this song called Old Guitar by BUNT. and it just seems to remind me of those times and how I would just get consumed by the novel and dissociate from reality for a few hours. I suppose I had that song on loop while reading because every single time I hear this song, I'm overcome with this feeling of nostalgia and a need to read.

  6. Hello!

The most nostalgic thing for me is eating butter cookies. I know it sounds weird at first, but it reminds me of my childhood. I remember when I was 7, I would play a game called ''Haunt The House'' on Friv while eating this kind of cookies. Sadly I cannot play that game anymore because Flash Player is no longer working o.O I miss the good old days x'(

  8. I've never seen people share similar nostalgic feelings from music before. I guess it isn't really a conversation I've had before. Ironically I was just talking to a friend about this earlier today because I heard a song that instantly reminded me of an old friend of mine, mainly because it was one of my favorite songs around that time. I like to listen to YouTube music here and there and I'll just let videos auto-play and every now and then I'll get a super old song I used to listen to. It never fails that it brings back so many memories from different parts of my past. I saw @_ItsMusic_ mention that they will listen to the same song on loop, and I personally do the same. So, when that song comes back around I forget how amazing that song was and a hoard of memories will come back to me as well.

Music was the first thing that came to mind for me, I'm sure I have other things that bring nostalgia, but I was just super shocked to see other people have similar experiences. Definitely one of the more interesting topics I've seen on the forums, so I look forward to seeing what other people have to share!

  10. 1) 2007.... it was a golden year for Russia's teens. I was around 2 or 3 years at that time, but I still managed to remember this beautiful year.
2)Bionicles. This is the old lego series that has once saved lego from becoming bankrupt. I liked this series A LOT.
3)The times when youtube was filled with Counter Strike Zombie Escape videos & Minecraft mod reviews.

  13. Certain smells of air, hand sanitizer, retro PC games, pixel art that tries to be modern but stays retro, Hotel rooms, trippy stuff, and finally, dark atmospheres, indoor or outdoor.
And oh BTW keygen, .mid format, and certain retro songs are very nostalgic to me

  17. I actually find mineplex cakewars very nostalgic. I used to play it non stop on my tablet a few years back.

Minecraft music also makes me very sad and nostalgic, if i play this on top of playing cakewars, i cant even play it anymore.

Irl i find winter in my town centre very nostalgic. Something about going shopping there on a crisp winter night near Christmas always makes me nostalgic.

  19. I moved around a lot as a child since my parents were in the military, so the most nostalgic for me would be going back to visit the places I used to live. It's always very bittersweet but it does make me appreciate how far I've come ^^
