My honest opinion on the new Survival Mode

Hey everyone! Many of you of you know may know me as pumpedpixel from cake wars. I've been playing mineplex on and off for about 3 years now, I've had many great times on this server and met many amazing people along the way. I remember, slowly climbing up the cake wars leaderboard with my friends and even managed to get in the top 20s at one point, however during my time on this server there was one game mode in particular that I have a lot of fond memories of and brought a lot of joy to me. and that was mineplex survival mode, however, it wasn't just like any other game mode on this server. there was something unique and interesting about it. the fact that you could start up your own shop, run a casino, build huge skyscrapers, build a majestic castle, startup a town, manage your own hotel or just really anything was amazing. truly, the only limit to it was your imagination. if you ever joined it the first thing you would notice is how great the community was. sure there was some toxicity here and there but overall the community was great. another awesome factor about mineplex survival mode was exploring, me and a few friends of mine would travel thousands of blocks out and witness a lot of neat structures. you could see anything from mansions to full on cities. many players including myself would sink multiple hours into their builds. some builds took a few days to complete and others would take weeks or even months to finish. I remember one time in particular, I was making some banners in my underground shop and noticed a couple nametags above me, I went up there to investigate and turned out it was just 2 random players that stumbled across my base while exploring. I gave them a few items and they went off to explore other builds, that made my day. you see survival wasn't just a game it was an experience. I've met a lot of good friends on there, some of which i still talk to to this day. however one day, survival was down and it remined down for 3 months instead of just doing a backup mineplex decided to completely reset the entire thing. all those amazing builds everyone spent months building, all their items they spent hours obtaining, all those pets that people spent forever finding. vanished without a trace, it was if it was rewinded back to day 1. everything was gone. like many other players, i was perplexed as to why they would reset it, i asked around in chat and around the forums and a few staff members as well as other players
told me it was because of god item(items with 32k enchants). apparently they caused a lot of issues with survival so mineplex had to completely ban them and reset survival mode entirely. however, to this very day this explanation still makes 0 sense to me, I'm not mad at the staff team or anything, after all they work really hard on this server to keep it going and for that i thank them but couldn't they just reset peoples inventories or chests? or at the very least just reset the worst affected servers? at least that way we could still have the builds we worked so hard on. I'm not a developer. so I have no knowledge if they could do that but still. I personally never liked the idea of god items as a whole but why should survival get completely reset if a few players decided to use modified clients to spawn them in? however its not just that shortly after the reset all beacons,potions,bedrock,spawm eggs, elytra's, along with many other items were banned. the wither got banned to, it was always fun for someone to summon one and me and other players would fight them however now, newer players cant experience that. after the tragic reset, many of the original survival players stopped paying it. at peak times survival used to get between 900-2k players. 1 time i even saw reach as far as 3k. now its only 300-500 players tops. again I'm not trying to criticize the new survival mode in anyway, I'm just disappointed in how the game mode turned out, i still play it now and always will. i even started working on some new big projects as its still a very fun game mode. but its not the game it used to be. please don't take down this post or take it in the wrong way as its not made to be taken as criticism, its just my opinion as a long time veteran mineplex survival player.

The old survival players: I've build a really big base, gave 3 wither boss spawn eggs to a new guy and pit killed some folks. I've also bought an ender dragon SPAWN egg for my 32k knockback cod.
The modern survival players: I need gboxes, please.

i agree, wither spawners were a bit over powered, but they were still fun to mess with.

I'm not sure what you mean by "reset Survival mode entirely." The development team has not reset or mentioned that they would reset Survival in the near future afaik. The only major change for Survival players is that specific items were removed or limited. But, they did not reset any worlds yet. I would imagine they would when a content updates arrives, but until then, I doubt they would.

Entities and items with abnormal custom NBT data were reset. This included mobs that would hunt down and kill players extremely quickly, items that would essentially "lock" a player's account and more. I don't think there's a way to easily differentiate between what is a pet and what is not a pet. If you're referring to dogs or cats, or normal pet animals in Minecraft. Are you sure someone didn't just teleport to your base or happen across your pet and kill it?

They did not reset Survival during the 3 month downtime. When it was brought back up, players had the same inventory and builds. (minus the "illegal" items that were not normally obtainable/were harmful to gameplay) I logged onto Survival a few minutes after it was announced that it was brought back up and I had my items and claims/homes. I logged in again just now, and I still have the same items and homes/builds.

I see what you mean, but the problem here is that they were also used to grief bases or annoy players. If there is a way to reintroduce it back into the game without this, that would be great.

Seeing as you said that your inventory was not reset, it's likely that you're actually on a different Survival server than the one you were originally on. There are 16 Survival servers that players can connect to. It's very likely that your base still exists on one of them, but not the one you're on. If you have a home set there, you can teleport there. It is also possible that there was a issue where your claims/homes were removed, in this case, your build still exists. But you might not be able to teleport there.

 

I'm not sure what your on about here, survival mode got completely reset around 9-12 months ago if I remember correctly. everything got wiped on it, including builds.

I'm referring to whenever survival got reset, everything was reset from the game. builds, inventories, pets,etc

I didn't go into details on about withers in my post, but in my opinion mineplex should of just removed the grief capability of withers similar to what they did with tnt and creepers. I think a lot of the og survival players would agree with that.

 

Perhaps I'm being confused here. Are you referencing Season 1 of Survival? Or the downtime during Season 2? There were multiple instances in the past where Survival was offline and unavailable to players. But in the 1ish year I have played on Mineplex, Survival has never been fully reset since I started playing. The only major issues were that players were unable to join Survival.

 

to clear any confusion, in my post i was referring to the bedrock side of things, I'm not sure how it is on java as I only played it a couple times. but survival got completely reset on bedrock, I wouldn't of made this post if it wasn't.

 

I am also referring to Bedrock. While I have the Hero rank on my profile, I am a avid Bedrock player. Java does not have any Survival gamemode. Survival was not reset in the 1 year that I have played on Mineplex Bedrock.

It was reset before, but that was before I had played Mineplex.

 

To be honest, I agree with ya, Pumpedpixel, I felt something was unique in Mineplex Survival, I visited great builds like empires, mansion, shops and I and my friend SadLoveRIP are going to make a great music shop. It truly amazing although griefers and hackers are here. If you asked me what I missed in the old Survival mode, ITS THE SPAWN EGGS, ONLY THE SPAWN EGGS. Bc with the spawn eggs, I CAN GET UNLIMITED VILLAGERS AND I LIKE VILLAGERS (especially librarians). After the downfall of my greatest survival world, I met Mineplex Survival, and it was great! I've veen playing for 1 year and still lovin it. Unlike Lifeboat Survival, there wasnt too many restrictions, and like what you said we build anything! Im very impressed with the builds of great players. And maybe I will make an underground Nether community(with limited Nether blocks) :>

unfortunately, I don't have that base anymore. it got removed because of the reset but I appreciate your suggestions. maybe i could include them in one of my future bases

 

I'm confused here, in one of your pervious statements you said that mineplex never reseted it but on this one you said they did?

 

My apologises. I wasn't clear enough in my first post.
Quote 1 in your post refers to way back in the past (over a year ago) while quote 2 refers to recently (1 year ago to now) and resetting it again in the near future.

 

It’s funny how they blame the lag on 32ks but somce their removal it’s laggier and less stable than it ever was before id suggest they just put things back so we could play without all these problems it wasn’t even this bad when they had no devs at all
