The following guidelines reference 'Data Points'. If you would like to learn more about these, please click here.

Cake Wars is a strategic gamemode often fast paced but also based on survival. There are two versions of the game - each has it's own individual gameplay you will need to accommodate to. Duos is made up of 8 spawn islands, whereas Standard is made up of 4 spawn islands, but both surround a centre island and include lots of mini islands around them (that's enough of the word "island" for now).

Standard, as already stated, is made up of 4 spawn islands, surrounding one large centre island, with 4 emerald islands between each spawn.

Each spawn island needs to meet these requirements:

    • At least 4 SPAWN points for each island (RED, BLUE, YELLOW, GREEN)
    • 1 TEAM COLOUR DATA point for the cake
    • 1 GREY DATA point for the shop text
    • 1 BLACK DATA point for the island text
(Island text = the hovering text at the edge of the island. The data point should be at the very edge because of this:

    • Generator sponge point - should be on top of the iron block. Sign should read:

      (Colour dependent on team)

    • Shop sponge points - should be evenly spaced out, and must have some sort of indication (blocks behind/underneath etc) to show which shop it is. Signs should read:

      (Colour dependent on team)
    • 1 chest
    • 1 ender chest

Each emerald island needs to meet these requirements:

    • 1 capture point on each island
    • Capture point must follow these dimensions:
    • Capture point must have a powered beacon underneath it
    • Capture point must be surrounded by emerald blocks
    • 1 LIGHT GREY DATA point on top/centre of capture point.
    • Island must be the exact same distance from both islands it sits between.
    • Feel free to add some cover on the island but nothing major. Make sure it's balanced.

Centre island needs to meet these requirements:

    • 1 capture point in very centre of island
    • Capture point must follow these dimensions:
    • Capture point must have a powered beacon underneath it
    • Capture point must be surrounded by chiseled quarts blocks
    • 1 WHITE DATA point on top/centre of capture point. Centre beacon data point MUST BE at 0,0 exactly.
    • Centre island should always be 20 blocks away from every spawn
    • 1 BROWN DATA point for Anti Camping bats around 2 or 3 blocks below the surface. This can be anywhere on the map.

    The Guidelines are as follows:
    • Border should not be too high, or too far out, to prevent camping. Also make sure the bottom border point is at least 40 blocks below the map, so players won't die quickly if they jump and enderpearl. Make sure the back border (behind spawn islands) is 3 blocks behind the island, for consistency, and to prevent camping. Make sure the top border is around 10 blocks above the highest point of the map, to avoid skybasing.
    • Avoid having areas under or behind the map where people can create bases and camp
    • Make sure every single island is the exact same distance from eachother / from emerald islands / from centre island
    • Spawn islands must be 20 blocks from centre island
    • Make sure you can easily bridge off of the edge of all islands. Don't use slabs/stairs since they're hard to place blocks on.
    • Add some cover on islands to balance gameplay (and avoid Archers hitting you off so soon)
    • Add things like holes / gaps in the terrain for more challenge
    • Make sure there's plenty of team indicators so you can see which island you're heading for from a distance
    • Make sure each island follows this same orientation:
    • For map submissions, custom cake islands we will add ourselves. You are allowed to make your own custom cake island, but no floating islands please. Cake themes are preferred. Set up a custom island like this:

    • Green and blue island should have lime and light blue decoration. This means any clay, wool, carpets, glass etc EXCEPT FOR DATA POINTS should be lime or light blue. This is because the wool you receive in game and the armour you wear is lime and light blue, so to colour coordinate better, the decoration should match.
    • On the spawn islands, the ender chest should be on the right, and the regular chest should be on the left, in terms of orientation.
    • It is preferred for the shops and chests to be accessible from the generator.

Duos, as mentioned, is made up of 8 spawn islands, surrounding one large centre island, with 4 emerald islands between spawns, and connecting islands to help with movement.

You are allowed to make your own custom cake island, but it has a likelihood of being changed unless it looks uniform with the rest of the map. No floating islands please. Cake themes are preferred. If you choose to make Cake Wars maps, please note; you need to make both versions (Standard and Duos) for one map. Make sure you change them to accommodate to the specific guidelines for either Duos or Standard. Please submit them in one submission; make sure it's clear.
