Cake wars map - Oar's Rest

  1. Hey all,

    I'm back with a 3rd map, another cake wars one since it's easily my favourite game at the moment. I've gone for a more simple, unique look which actually has room for competitive pvp etc unlike my last one, Galactic Drift, which was purely aesthetic. This time the theme is medieval since you can get a simple yet detailed gradient out of it and it's quite broad too. I hope y'all like it and let me know what you think:

    I'm thinking of doing a Halloween one next since we all know it's coming up soon, let me know what you think of that too. If anyone has any map ideas clawing at them feel free to PM me them and I might consider them for my next theme too.

  2. Wow!

    This is an amazing map! I love the amount of detail there is it's super cute! The spawn islands are sooo cute with the little house and the amount of detail there is just makes it even better! The center island is also amazing with the pathways, flowers and buildings make it look incredible! Great job on this map and I hope to see it on the server soon.

    One suggestion is to add interior to the houses maybe: beds, crafting tables, benches ect. I think that will make the map even better.

  3. I worry that people might be able to camp on top of the tower at mid. I can't tell if there's a way up, but people could enderpearl or nerd pole up there which isn't good. Similarly, there's that lower layer around the back of the spawn islands that people could camp on, stalling out the game since it would be difficult to find them.

    Another thing is that the emerald islands are only just big enough to fit the beacon on. As lots of fights can occur around emerald beacons, especially early on in the game, the islands should be bigger to facilitate that. Overall, the space between the islands seems really small, as you can almost just jump to the middle from the emerald islands. There should be a bigger gap otherwise people can get to mid so fast and it also makes defending from a rush much harder since there's considerably less time.

    The map guidelines state that there should be connecting islands directly in front of each pair of islands which your map doesn't have, so I'd suggest adding that. There also doesn't seem to be any holes in the terrain which the guideline also mentions.

    Overall I think the map looks really good but there are mainly issues with the size and spacing of the map.

  4. adding on to what @Xukuri said, i feel there is too much nature at the middle island & i feel it's too cluttered; try removing some trees. also, don't add animals.

    please remember the teams, red, blue, yellow, green, pink, purple, cyan, orange. remember, too, that wool should look like these;

    i'd recommend to try and not block the nether star beacon, either

    i feel the fences in general are too blocking, it'll be easy to run into. your choice to keep them or not, i'd recommend not as it kind of disturbs gameplay.

    also, i feel the emerald islands are a bit small.

    add connecting islands, and move the team islands back a little--they're too close. same goes for the emerald island and the middle island.

    like Xuruki said, the tower is way too big, try lowering it a bit.

    also, like @Wolfayy said, try adding some design to the houses on the inside, they're kinda bland.

    i think the sides of the team islands are a bit awkward on the left and right?

    I'm not much of a Builder myself, but I must say, this is an awesome build! Though there are complications (potential game stalling, a bit small emerald beacon points) as players have already said. Even so, this map is awesome! Definitely 100x better than what I can make. I can tell that you've put a lot of time into this built and I admire the little details that were added.

  6. No No the map is very good. Whats wrong if people get on top of [email protected] Be a man and go after them then. If they game stall and try to hide, go find them. There are ways to find and get to someone if they are hiding. Keep it up EterealPlane, very great map you got there

  7. The tower itself is fine, but it’s just too tall. It can easily create game stalling which will lead to anger and people not wanting to play the map. To the map maker; the tower looks great you just need to make it smaller.

  9. Hey, this map looks incredible!

    Out of all of the maps I have seen in my life for CW, this is very unique as it has sort of a Skywars vibe to it. I really do enjoy the amount of detail put into this and because of that I really have no negative things to say. Now, I will touch on what people have said above about the emerald points being a little too small as they are right. I personally believe if you were to make those not majorly bigger, but around the size of the average emerald beacons, then this map will be phenomenal!

  10. Wow, this is unlike any Cake Wars map that I've ever seen. It has a completely different feel than all of the other maps. However, I'm not sure what to think about mid. I feel it might clash with the gameplay but that's just me. Other than that, If it was to be added, I would be very interested in testing it out.

    I also think that the emerald beacon locations should be made bigger to make gameplay better.

    First off, I love the theme and type of the map! Cake Wars is hands down my favorite game! The textures and colors make the map have style! One thing I have to say is maybe add some different patterns on the roof, but hey, that's just me. I look forward to seeing more maps from you.

  13. i love it! it gives me 2012 minecraft vibes in the best way possible, you'd definitely need barrier blocks or some other invisible entity to make sure people can't stall on the tower but overall I really like it! just needs some polish

    I firstly want to commend you for creating a map, it takes a lot of time and patience, and although I do not build maps often as I am not as skilled in that area, I know that it requires persistence and sometimes things may not go your way. At least you've given it your best shot, now I will try and give my general opinion on aspects of the map, along with constructive feedback to help you further improve your build and future builds;

    I want to start out by saying I really like the general structures on the map. The buildings are quite unique, and are different to anything I've seen on a Cake Wars map. I also really appreciate how you've gone ahead and have experimented with terrain, ensuring that the map is not basic with the same level but instead changing it up with different terrain such as mountains and hills to help make game-play more interesting. The medieval theme of the map is also pretty unique and interesting in my opinion, I would definitely want to try playing on a map like this!

    As for feedback, there isn't much to say as you've thought out all aspects of the map pretty well. I can definitely tell you've spent a lot of time working on this project. Personally, I think there is just a bit too much grass/rose bushes around the spawn. Don't get me wrong, I love how they look on the map, but I feel like they could interfere with PvP. I find it hard to hit players and fight properly when there is grass/bushes around that make it hard for me to hit people. Players could simply break these plants, but then that removes their original purpose from the map - decoration. I think try removing a few just so that it does not interfere with PvP.

    You could also try experimenting with adding some small holes on the ground in the center island. I have noticed that on most of the Cake Wars maps there are holes on the ground that make game-play more interesting. There are usually 2-4 holes located in the center island, and although I do not think it's compulsory for them to be added, they may make game-play more interesting and fun. That's just my opinion to make the map even more interesting, but really it's up to you.

    Finally, I would like to give you some handy links for if you chose to submit this map. You should first read the Map Submissions Guide which will give you the map requirements and contains a lot of handy information when building your map.     I really like the build! I can see you put some serious time and dedication into creating it. I'm wish I was a builder so I could be able to create stuff like that haha. However the only thing I want to critique is that the starter islands do looks a little bland. The walls of the buildings looks incredibly detailed however the same can't be said regarding the roof or the interior. Other than that I think you did an amazing job on the map!

    This is a super cool map! I love the theme you're going for but there are some suggestions I would like to add! So, first off, make sure you have read the Cake Wars Map Guidelines which you can find here, Cake Wars Map Guidelines.

    My first suggestion is to make the Emerald Islands a lot larger, though not too large. There seems to be no room for PvP on the island and just to capture, since Cake Wars is a player versus player gamemode I would suggest making the island bigger so the players can PvP on the island.

    Same goes with the first one, the spawn island is not very spacious and not a lot of room to PvP, along with the middle island too. Also, I would suggest removing the black clay around the island and replace is with the grass texture you're going with.

    Your terrain could be smoothed out and some more variant of blocks and textures would also be great! Another thing is that you are missing a lot of data points so make sure to read the Cake Wars Map Guidelines I linked above in blue text, and also make sure to read the datapoint guidelines which can be found here, Datapoint Guidelines.

    This is a very very very nice map. I love the detail that you put into it. My favorite part is where you put clay as the grass on the islands; It makes the islands seem less generic.

    Really love this! Hope it gets implemented into Mineplex good luck!

  19. Regardless of which map mineplex makes, every map can be stalled either way doesn't have to always be obvious by getting on top of mid. But this map is epic, good work you did bud

  20. It looks like there's been a lot of helpful people so far giving advice, but there's some things I haven't seen mentioned yet that I want to point out. Along with increasing the size of the islands, I recommend spacing them out further although I'm not sure how much space would be ideal. Just something that can't be bridged in less than 15 seconds I'm assuming. The other thing I haven't seen anyone mention is the amount of flower bushes on the map. It may look nice but it can cause issues while in pvp by preventing players from getting clean hits during a fight. (Same thing for vines, but I didn't notice any on the map.) So I recommend thinning those out a bit to make it less clustered where people will no doubt be fighting.

    Overall I think that your map has some great potential, and would have good chances of getting accepted once everything is fixed up. I also definitely agree with GoofIt, the map gives off a Skywars kind of vibe, something that I haven't seen from any of the current maps. Best of luck with the map submission, I hope to see it added!
